Static Line FAQ

What do we learn in the course?

Static-line progression is the form of instruction used at the Lincoln Sport Parachute Club. The method begins Saturday morning with video and lecture and culminates on Saturday afternoon with practical (hands-on demonstrations) and the first jump. The jump is made from approximately 3000 feet where the static-line automatically deploys the parachute once the jumper has cleared the aircraft. This is followed by a radio assisted canopy descent lasting about three minutes. LSPC is a United States Parachute Association member Dropzone. This means that we follow the Basic Safety Requirements (BSRs) set forth by U.S.P.A and the FAA in the Skydivers Information Manual (SIM).

The Static-Line course will fully prepare the student to successfully complete their first solo parachute jump. A minimum of five static-line jumps must be made fulfilling the objectives of each jump, before they are cleared for free-fall. From the first free-fall onward, the student is gradually introduced to terminal velocity (max acceleration towards the ground) and the fundamental RW (Relative Work – formation skydiving) skills that will make them a safe and proficient skydiver. This is accomplished by using a progression of longer deployment delays starting with a “Hop ‘n Pop” or immediate deployment after exit followed by 10 second, 15 second, 30 second and 45 second delays.

Is it safe?

Safety is our number one priority at LSPC.  But as with any extreme sport there are dangers present.  With our certified staff to guide you the static line class will give you the information needed to complete your first skydive.

How much does it cost?

$175.00  This includes the class, jump and everything you need to make your first jump.  No hidden gear rental fees here!

I want to get licensed to jump do you provide this service?

Absolutely!  Training people to be skydivers is what we are all about at LSPC.

How many jumps does it take to get my license?

The number of jumps it takes all depends on you and the time you can commit to the sport.  No matter what type of training you choose the minimum number of jumps to attain you basic “A” license is 25.  If you take too much time between jumps it will take you longer.

Does every jump cost $175.00?

No.  $175.00 is the cost of the first jump course.  After you have completed the first jump course the jumps are $60.00.  That includes the instructor and the gear rental for each jump.  When your at the DZ check out our special 5 jump package prices for students!  If you like we do have a A licence package.  Ask about it when you call!

I see your weight limit is 220 can you tell me why?

Its all about safety.  All skydiving equipment has a maximum allowable weight and student gear has a maximum weight that keeps the student at or below 220 lbs.  You have to factor in your weight as you exit the plane and that includes your weight and the weight of the equipment.  We do not exceed the manufacturers weight requirements for any reason.  And yes 221 is too much you have to be 220 or less to make a static line skydive.  You will be weighed when you check in.  If you are over the 220 weight limit you will not be allowed to take the class and your deposit will be forfeited.

What do I wear?

Tennis shoes are recommended.  Although it might see logical to wear sturdy hiking boots,  if they have hooks on them they pose a safety issue.

The temperature drops as we climb to jump altitude.  It is recommended to wear jeans and a sweatshirt on cooler days.   Shorts and a tee-shirt on warmer days.  We provide you with a jumpsuit to cover you clothes

Long hair must be tied up before the jump for your safety.  We will provide a helmet to wear for added protection.

Piercings beyond the normal ear types are fine.  We recommend that you remove  any other body piercings before the jump.

What if I already took the course but I have not jumped for a while?

As per USPA Basic Safety Requirements students are required to make at least 1 jump every 30 days to remain current.  If you are not current you will have to take a refresher class to get current again.  The refresher class is $25.00 plus the student jump ticket.

If you are  180 or more days out of currency you will have to take the FJC again.  The jumps you have made up to this point are still counted towards your basic license.
